How does therapy work?
Generally, therapy is most effective when the client and the therapist can cultivate certain characteristics within the therapeutic relationship, as well as develop goals and a process that are appropriate in helping to create specific changes for that particular person. I work with the client to create an environment and relationship where this is all possible. Additionally, depending on what you are struggling with, there are approaches that generally work for most people with a certain difficulty. If a person is unclear about why they are struggling or how they got to where they are, I first take the time to get to know them and understand the important people and experiences in their present and past. Then we work together to decide how to use the information we have about mental health conditions to help them feel better, change their behaviors, develop new ways of understanding themselves and others, and reinterpret the meaning certain experiences hold in their life.
Are my sessions confidential?
Yes, psychotherapy is confidential which means that unless I have written permission from you, I can’t let anyone one know what we discuss, or that you are even one of my clients. This is required both legally and ethically, but aside from the legal component, I see confidentiality as a way for a client to feel a sense of security in the therapeutic process and as way for us to develop a sense of trust in one another and our relationship.
There are some limits to confidentiality when there is a need to maintain the immediate physical safety of the client or someone else, but those are very specific circumstances that do not occur frequently. These are outlined in the Intake Packet and are discussed thoroughly if you do decide to meet with me in person.
When are you available?
I am currently available for individual therapy on Tuesdays and have availability ranging from 7:30 am until 8 pm.
Do you take insurance?
I am an in-network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) PPO. If you carry this insurance I will bill BCBS directly. If you have another insurance carrier, I will provide you with an invoice that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Is it difficult to file for out-of-network benefits?
I recommend that you make initial contact with your insurance company prior to our first appointment to determine if you have out-of-network benefits and what percentage it covers. If you are considering using out-of-network benefits I am also happy to contact your insurance provider on your behalf to confirm your benefits.
